چکیده

The measurement of lung perfusion by bronchospirometry was first described by Bjorkman in 1934. The method is cumbersome and unpleasant for the patient, since it involves intratracheal intubation. Nevertheless, it is still a standard method for the measurement of individual lung perfusion. In 1964, Wagner, Sabiston, McAfee, Tow, and Stern described their preliminary findings with a new radioisotope lung scanning procedure. They injected macroaggregates of 1311 labelled human serum albumin into a peripheral vein, localized the accumulation of radioactivity in the lung with a Scintiscanner, and postulated that the concentration of radioactively labelled micro-emboli in the various parts of the lung was directly related to pulmonary blood flow. In this study we have compared the blood flow in each lung, as determined by bronchospirometry, with the individual lung perfusion, as determined by a quantitative Scintiscanning procedure.

Effect of exercise on lung-perfusion scanning in patients with bronchogenic carcinoma.

The aim of this study was to determine whether perfusion-scintillation scanning, used as a predictive pre-operative index of lung functionality in patients with lung cancer, is affected by the level of pulmonary blood flow (PBF). Twenty patients with primary lung cancer underwent spirometry and a radionuclide-perfusion scan (macroaggregated albumin particles labelled with 99mTechnetium) both at...

Combining Neural Network with Genetic Algorithm for prediction of S4 Parameter using GPS measurement

The ionospheric plasma bubbles cause unpredictable changes in the ionospheric electron density. These variations in the ionospheric layer can cause a phenomenon known as the ionospheric scintillation. Ionospheric scintillation could affect the phase and amplitude of the radio signals traveling through this medium. This phenomenon occurs frequently around the magnetic equator and in low latitu...

Scintillation scanning of lungs in preoperative assessment of carcinoma of bronchus.

Lung scans with the use of macroaggregated human serum albumin labelled with technetium-99m were carried out in 52 patients before thoracotomy.Forty-three patients had carcinoma of the bronchus. Tumours less than 2 cm. in diameter on the chest radiograph were not detected. Larger tumours showed defects in perfusion, ranging in size from the mass seen on the chest radiograph to almost absent per...

Diagnosis of thromboembolic disease: Combined ventilation perfusion lung scan and compression ultrasonography

The clinical management of pulmonary embolism and deep venous thrombosis of the legs are similar and requires prolonged anticoagulation therapy. The standard diagnostic approach in patients suspected of pulmonary embolism is ventilation-perfusion (V/Q) lung scan and compression ultrasonography to detect deep venous thrombosis. This retrospective study analyzed the role of V/Q lung scan an...

Spurious lung perfusion ventilation defect on planar ventilation-perfusion scan detected by SPECT imaging

Pulmonary embolism (PE) is a preventable cause of morbidity and mortality which needs prompt recognition. Ventilation-perfusion (V/Q) scan is a well-established diagnostic test for evaluation of suspected PE. We report a 32-year-old woman with history of rheumatologic disease and acute dyspnea, who was referred for V/Q scintigraphy. The planar images revealed multiple mismatched defects through...
